The Kitasoo Band Council has been involved in economic development for our people since the beginning, to provide jobs for our people and sustainable funding for our development.

Our basic philosophy has been to develop gradually, starting small and funding development through past successes and profits. This has enabled us to develop the skills required as we go and avoid large debt load and associatted funding costs.

We currently have six limited companies:

  • Kitasoo Development Corp.
  • Kitasoo Seafoods Ltd.
  • Kitasoo Aqua Farms Ltd.
  • Kitasoo Forest Company Ltd.
  • Kitasoo Band Store Ltd.
  • First Nations Fuel Ltd.

The oldest of these is the Kitasoo Band Store Ltd., established in 1970. The directors of these companies act on behalf of the Kitasoo/Xai'xais people.
